Indian Army To Honour 30 Bangladeshi Freedom Fighters

The Eastern Command Headquarters of Indian Army will accord a reception to 30 elderly freedom fighters of Bangladesh on December 15, ahead of Victory Day.
The reception will be arranged at the Eastern Command Headquarters at Fort William in Kolkata on that day, Major General ND Prasad, General Staff at Eastern Command Headquarters, told a press conference at Fort William on Saturday.
Victory Day is celebrated on December 16 in Bangladesh commemorating the victory of the allied forces over the Pakistani forces in the Bangladesh War of Independence in 1971. On December 16, 1971, Bangladesh was born as an independent country. The day is also celebrated as ‘Vijay Diwas,’ or Victory Day, in India.
The Eastern Command of Indian Army has chalked up elaborate programs marking the day.
Prasad said military band concerts will be held at Princep Ghat on the banks of River Hooghly on December 13 and 14. An exhibition of rare photographs will also be arranged.
Elderly journalists Sukharanjan Dasgupta, Tarun Ganguly and Manash Ghosh reminisced about the War of Independence in the press conference.
