Assam: IAF's UAV Crashed In Sonitpur, Yet To Be Traced
One Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) belonging to the Indian Air Force (IAF) crashed on Saturday evening at Bokajan under Salonibari police station in Assam’s Sonitpur district at around 6:30 pm.
The Sonitpur deputy superintendent of police (headquarters), Dr. Rashmi Rekha Sharma said, “Till 8:30 pm, the UAV could not be traced. The area has been cordoned off by the security personnel and district police.”
“The search operation started on Sunday morning,” she said.
There are various UAVs used by different Indian armed forces. The Indian Air Force (IAF) uses Heron, which is a Medium Altitude Long Endurance (MALE) UAV. This was developed by Israel.
It has a flight time of 52 hours, but its actual time of flight depends on weight it carries and flight profile.
This UAV has some advanced features like artillery adjustment, surveillance and intelligence tasks.
Rustom is an unnamed combat air vehicle which is a production of DRDO dedicated to all three services of Indian armed forces.
This UAV, which is under progress, has come with wheels making its take-off and landing a bit ahead of Nishant.
Machines have become smarter and human have become more relaxed.
The hi-tech weapons and security systems have eased human efforts and reduced life loss.
Similar outcome has been observed in the Air Force with the introduction of UAVs (pilotless aircraft).
However, the features of the crashed UAV, belonging to the IAF, are yet to be known.
