Adding yet another feather to the cap of the Madras Engineer Group (MEG) of the Indian Army — informally known as Madras Sappers — Havildar Anuj Kumar Taliyan Monday clinched gold in the 11th World Bodybuilding Championship 2019 held at Jeju Island, South Korea.
Havildar Kumar won the medal in the 100+ kg category, in the Championship that concluded Monday.
In 2019, Havildar Kumar emerged gold medal winner again in the event held in Chennai from March 29 to 31.
According to a statement released by the Bangalore Defence PRO, Havildar Kumar joined Madras Sappers in 2010.
The bodybuilder clinched gold in the in the 100+ kg category during the Senior National Body Building Championship 2018 held at Pune in March.
Later, he won two national gold medal titles in the 2018 Services Championship to emerge as the Services Champion that year.
In 2019, Havildar Kumar emerged gold medal winner again in the event held in Chennai from March 29 to 31.

The win in the national championship made him qualify for the World Bodybuilding Championship, held from November 5 to 11 in South Korea, the statement said.
“Havildar Kumar achieved this with his hard work and dedication, throughout eight years to become a champion for the first time in 2018. After becoming the Services Champion in 2018, there was no looking back for him,” the statement read.
It can be recalled that Subedar Anandan Gunasekaran, a para-athlete of the Madras Sappers, had qualified for the Tokyo Paralympics 2020 after winning three gold medals in total in the 7th Military World Games 2019 at Wuhan, China.
