The opening of the Kartarpur Corridor has been scheduled for November 9, 2019. Earlier, Pak FM had said that Pakistan has decided to invite Manmohan Singh for inaugural ceremony. Kartarpur Corridor opening will be on time, MoFA Pak said

The development has come a few days after Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi said that Pakistan has decided to invite Manmohan Singh to attend the inaugural ceremony of the Kartarpur Corridor.

Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has been formally invited by Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan for the inaugural ceremony of the landmark Kartarpur Corridor in November. The opening of the Kartarpur Corridor has been scheduled for November 9, 2019.

The information was shared by Pakistan's foreign ministry on Thursday. Addressing a presser, the MoFA spokesperson also said that the Kartarpur Corridor opening will be on time as, he said, committed by Imran Khan.

The development has come a few days after Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi said that Pakistan has decided to invite Manmohan Singh to attend the inaugural ceremony of the Kartarpur Corridor.

Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh had also invited President Ram Nath Kovind, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to join the first all-party group that would attend the historic event of the opening of Kartarpur corridor in Pakistan.

Manmohan Singh has accepted the invitation to attend the event, Amarinder Singh had said.

After a section of the media claimed that Manmohan Singh had accepted Pakistan's invite and would be going across the border for the Kartarpur Corridor inauguration, Amarinder Singh clarified on the matter, saying the former prime minister would not go to Pakistan for the ceremony.

"There is no question of me going [to Pakistan for Kartarpur Corridor opening] and I feel Dr Manmohan Singh will not go as well," Amarinder Singh was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.

The former prime minister's office, too, said it has no information about the invite so far and sources indicated that he is unlikely to attend.

Pakistan is scheduled to open the Kartarpur Corridor for Indian Sikh pilgrims on November 9, days ahead of the 550th birth anniversary of first Sikh guru Baba Nanak on November 12.
