The prime minister will be awarded the "Global Goalkeepers Award" at the Lincoln Centre by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation for leadership in the field of sanitation through the "Swachh Bharat Abhiyan".
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who arrived in the US Saturday, preached his cleanliness message through a simple gesture which is winning hearts of the netizens.
On his arrival at the George Bush Intercontinental airport for the “Howdy, Modi” community event, PM Modi was presented with a bouquet of flowers by an American dignitary. His gesture was much appreciated on social media platforms. “Where PM Narendra Modi spontaneously picks up a flower or a stem, which had fallen on the ground from a bouquet presented to him, and hands it over to his security staff. Simplicity!” a user wrote on Twitter.
PM Modi will be awarded the “Global Goalkeepers Award” at the Lincoln Centre by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation for leadership in the field of sanitation through the “Swachh Bharat Abhiyan”. According to the Gates Foundation, Modi will be recognised for “the progress India is making in improving sanitation, as part of its drive toward achievement of the UN sustainable development goals”.
Over 10 crore toilets have been built in India since the launch of the Swachh Bharat program on October 2, 2014.
“The Swachh Bharat Mission can serve as a model for other countries around the world that urgently need to improve access to sanitation for the world’s poorest,” a source said.
On Saturday, PM Modi met the CEOs of energy sector companies in Houston. Following this, India’s Petronet LNG Limited signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with US LNG developer Tellurian Inc Saturday, under which Petronet and its affiliates intend to import up to five million tonnes of liquefied natural gas (LNG) per annum through equity investment in Driftwood project in Louisiana.
PM Modi also met delegations of religious communities of Indian diaspora in the States.
