In a significant development, two Pakistani nationals have been nabbed by the Army near the Line of Control (LoC). Sources in the security forces said that they were planning to guide a large group of terrorists to infiltrate Jammu and Kashmir (J&K).
It comes at a time when the security forces have been on alert following the abrogation of Article 370 and division of the J&K into two Union Territories, Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.
"Khalil Ahmad and Mozam Khokar, both Pakistani nationals, were arrested near the LoC in Boniyar sector of Baramulla district during the intervening night of August 22 and 23," the Army said.
In a joint briefing with police in Srinagar, the Army said that the two were trying to carry out a plan to help a large group of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists infiltrate into the Kashmir valley.
"During questioning, the two LeT guides revealed that their handlers across the LoC are planning to push in groups of terrorists to disrupt peace and launch attacks in Kashmir," the Army said.
General officer commanding Chinar corp, Lt Gen KJS Dhilon said that since August 5 when Article 370 was abrogated, infiltration bids from Pakistan are being foiled on a daily basis on the LOC.
"A large number of terrorists are waiting to infiltrate. Pakistan is trying every night to push in these men into our side," Lt Gen Dhillon said.
"All the launching pads are filled across LoC in PoK and Pakistani army posts along the LoC, not only are trying to push these terrorists but are facilitating them in infiltration," Lt Gen Dhilon said.
The general added that the infiltration bids are either being foiled or infiltrators are being compelled to return back from LoC "due to alertness of our own troops".
Both the nabbed LeT guides are residents of Rawalpindi in Pakistan and were jointly interrogated by Army, Police and other security agencies for the past one week.
During interrogation, the arrested terrorists provided important clues to the Indian Army about the infiltration plans of terror groups as well as the role of Pakistan army in these infiltration.
After the arrest of the infiltrators, the Army carried out operations in different areas of Gulmarg as well as many other many of LoC in Kashmir.
