Hours after the reports that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi would be visiting Kashmir to review the situation, the Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) government warned against political leaders visiting the Valley, saying that senior political leaders should not disturb the peace process in the Valley by their visits.

Rahul Gandhi on Friday accepted Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) Governor Satya Pal Malik's offer to visit Kashmir to review the situation after the abrogation of provisions of Article 370 and according to the reports, the Congress leader and nine other Opposition leaders are expected to visit the Valley on Saturday.

Taking to Twitter, the J&K government said that "attempts should not be made by senior political leaders to disturb the gradual restoration of normal life" when it is trying to protect the people from cross-border terrorism and other threats. It also said that by making visits, the leaders would be "violating restrictions and putting other people to inconvenience".

"At a time when the government is trying to protect the people of Jammu & Kashmir from the threat of cross border terrorism and attacks by militants and separatists and gradually trying to restore public order by controlling miscreants and mischief mongers, attempts should not be made by senior political leaders to disturb the gradual restoration of normal life," the J&K government said.

The state government also requested the political leaders to "cooperate and not visit Srinagar as they would be putting other people to inconvenience". It also said that by visiting Kashmir, the leaders would be restricting that have been put up at many places.

"They would also be violating restrictions that are still there in many areas. Senior leaders should understand that top priority would be given to maintaining peace, order and preventing loss of human lives," the J&K government's statement said.

The leaders who are expected to visit Kashmir on Saturday include Rahul Gandhi, Ghulam Nabi Azad, Anand Sharma, KC Venugopal of the Congress, D Raja of CPI, Sitaram Yechury of CPI(M), Tiruchi Siva of DMK, Manoj Jha of RJD, Dinesh Trivedi of TMC, Majeed Memon of NCP, and Kupendra Reddy of JD(S).

Earlier, J&K Governor Satya Pal Malik had invited Rahul Gandhi and even offered an aircraft to him to visit Kashmir to review the situation after the Congress leader showed apprehensions on the government's claims on no violence in the state, following its decision to scrap Article 370 provisions.

When Rahul Gandhi accepted the offer and said that he would be visiting along with other Opposition leaders, Satya Pal Malik lashed out at the Congress leader for putting "pre-conditions" for a visit to the state and alleged he was trying to "create unrest".
