Well Played But Don’t Compare Strikes And Matches: Pakistan Military’s Spokesperson On Amit Shah’s Jibe
Asif Ghafoor's comments came after Amit Shah posted a congratulatory message on Twitter for the Indian cricket team on Sunday after they defeated Pakistan in the World Cup match
New Delhi: A day after Home Minister Amit Shah took a dig at Pakistan after India demolished its neighbouring country in the Cricket World Cup match at Manchester, Pakistan armed forces’ media wing Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Director General Asif Ghafoor on Monday responded to Shah’s jibe.
Ghafoor asked the Home Minister Shah to not draw a comparison between a cricket match between the two countries and the border skirmishes.
This comes after Shah posted a congratulatory message on Twitter for the Indian cricket team on Sunday after they defeated Pakistan in the World Cup match.
In his tweet, Shah referred to the air strike carried out by Indian Air Force in Pakistan’s Balakot on February 26 in which it bombed terror camps of the Jaish-e-Mohammad.
The Home Minister had said in his tweet, “Another strike on Pakistan by Team India and the result is same. Congratulations to the entire team for this superb performance. Every Indian is feeling proud and celebrating this impressive win.”
Naturally, his tweet did not go down well with the Pakistan military’s spokesperson who asked Shah to not compare “strikes and matches” and claimed that Pakistan had come out on top of India in counter-strikes on February 27. IAF jets had successfully driven out Pakistan Air Force jets after they had attempted to breach Indian air space on February 27.
However, during the skirmish IAF’s Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman’s MiG-21 crashed in Pakistan’s territory after downing their F-16 jet. Abhinandan was later released by Pakistan as a peace gesture.
Meanwhile, in his tweet posted on his personal account, Ghafoor said, “Dear Amit Shah, yes your team won a match. Well played. Two things with different denominators can’t be compared. So are strikes & match.”
He mentioned Pakistan’s response to the February 26 air strike by India and ended his tweet with, “Stay Surprised.”
The Indian cricket team, led by Virat Kohli, registered its seventh successive win over Pakistan in a World Cup clash, at Old Trafford in Manchester on Sunday, winning the game by 89 runs.
