"He slapped me, used abusive language, and threatened me with dire consequences," journalist Sami Ibrahim said in the police complaint

Islamabad: Pakistan’s Science and Technology Minister Fawad Chaudhry has been accused by a leading television journalist of assault at a wedding. Sami Ibrahim, an anchor with a private news channel, has filed a complaint with the police regarding the assault.

The minister, in response, has turned the incident as “unfortunate”.

Bol News TV’s Sami Ibrahim said in the complaint that the science and technology minister attacked him at a wedding on Friday in Faisalabad.

"He slapped me, used abusive language, and threatened me with dire consequences," Ibrahim said in the complaint.

Reports said the police in Faisalabad confirmed receiving a complaint about the incident.

Responding to the development, Chaudhry told Neo News that it was Ibrahim who first "misbehaved" with him by previously referring to him as an "Indian spy".

"That incident shouldn't have happened but it did, unfortunately," Chaudry told Neo News. "He came across me and misbehaved again and then it happened," he added.

Chaudhry, who first served as information minister in the Imran Khan government, was appointed science and technology minister in April this year.
