MoS Defence Shripad Naik To Review GSL's Defence Projects
PANAJI: Union minister of state for defence Shripad Naik will be visiting Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL) on Monday to review the defence projects sanctioned by the NDA-1 government. He will also discuss future plans of action with GSL officers.
GSL had bagged a large order in 2015 to build 12 minesweepers valued at Rs 32,000 crore when Manohar Parrikar was defence minister. GSL and Indian industries were looking at partnering with the Korean shipbuilding industry in bringing worldclass technology to the maritime sector of the country and in the making of Mine Counter Measure Vessel (MCMV).
Naik said he will review all the projects that have been sanctioned earlier to Goa, including GSL and others. He will also check the possibility of reviving old defence projects and sanctioning some new projects to Goa. These defence projects will boost the Goan economy and create employment opportunities in the state, he said.
