Visakhapatnam: Indian Coast Guard ship Priyadarshini was commissioned by Commander of the Eastern Seaboard Additional Director General KR Nautiyal at Kakinada, on Friday. The ship is based at Kakinada and will be deployed for operational commitments. It will be under administrative and operational control of the Commander Coast Guard Region (East).

It is the first among the five in the series of ships being built indigenously by Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers (GRSE). It is capable of achieving a maximum speed of 34 knots and a displacement of 308 tonnes. The ship has state of art communication and navigational equipment that gives it the capacity to perform its role. 

The vessel will be commanded by Commandant Mahavir Singh. The ICG ship has a complement of six officers and 28 enrolled personnel.
