Badawe Sees Hyderabad As Top Market For Defence
Company in future to explore space, automotive and medical technology sectors
Hyderabad: Pune-based instrumentation and control systems company Badawe Engineers which has developed its proprietary products for Indian defence finds Hyderabad as one its top markets with the presence of large defence research labs as well as public sector establishments.
“Hyderabad is a major market for us. We had been supplying our products and solutions to Hyderabad defence establishments. We could set up our office in Hyderabad for certain products soon, as we see growing demand here. We hope to see more progress to come to the city’s defence ecosystem. This is a technology sector and not everyone can enter. Hyderabad has been the hub for DRDO and major defence activities,” Satyajit Badawe, director, Badawe Engineers, told Telangana Today.
The company has been involved in design, development, production and commissioning of control systems for defence applications. Badawe Engineers has been supporting India’s defence programme and serving defence system integrators such as Bharat Electronics.
He added, “We have facilities for the production of naval, land-based and airborne systems in Pune. We have created in-house design and development facilities besides testing facilities to evaluate various products. We are also seeing a lot of change in material science. A lot of innovation is happening in our facilities.”
On the country’s import dependency, he says, dependency on raw material is always there but Indian companies are able to come out with final products by right coding and integration. India need not re-invent the wheel and we can take the technology forward. Indian defence companies are entering into several strategic ties globally to develop systems and sub-systems.
“We make a range of products for defence such as launcher controllers, precision sensors, stabilised platforms, unmanned air and ground vehicles, airborne controllers with target locating features, antenna lifting systems, optical gun pedestals,” he added.
The company has served Defence Research & Development Laboratory, Research Centre Imarat, Defence Electronics Research Laboratory, Electronics & Radar Development Establishment, Snow & Avalanche Study Establishment, Institute of Armament Technology, Institute of Research & Development Establishment, Armament Research & Development Establishment, Research & Development Establishment (Engineers), Aeronautical Development Laboratory and PSUs such as Bharat Electronics, Bharat Earth Movers, Bharat Heavy Electricals, Bharat Dynamics and Heavy Vehicles Factory. “We continue to see long-term ties with these companies,” he added.
Badawe is also exploring opportunities in space, automotive and medical technology. Badawe Group companies also make a range of defence accessories in collaboration with Korean and German companies.
Badawe Engineers which has a turnover of Rs 15 crore is seeing a 15-20 per cent growth year-on-year and sees most of its future revenues coming from defence.
