Bhatt added that militants in groups of 25-30 are waiting at launch pads across the LoC to get into the valley

According to the Indian Army, over 250 militants are active in Kashmir and about the same number are waiting at "launch pads" across the Line of Control to infiltrate.

"About 250-275 militants are active in Kashmir valley," General-Officer-Commanding of Srinagar-based Chinar Corps (15 Corps), Lt Gen A K Bhatt told reporters in Baramulla, north Kashmir today.

Bhatt added that militants in groups of 25-30 are waiting at launch pads across the LoC to get into the valley.

"In the 15 Corps' zone (across the LoC), about 250-270 in groups of 25-30 are at different launch pads," he noted.

According to Bhatt, the situation in north Kashmir is better than the south as there is less number of militants in the north.

"Compared to south Kashmir, there is less number of militants in the north and the situation is also better in north Kashmir for which I thank the people, especially the youth, here," he said.

"I think National Security Guards will be deployed in Srinagar city along with the police," Bhatt informed.

Meanwhile, the Border Security Force is set to create a team of snipers to tackle the increasing movement of infiltrating militants across the J&K border, reports suggest.

The team will aim to check and avert any untoward event ahead of the Amarnath Yatra. Intelligence agencies suggest militant activity at launching pads across the border aiming to sneak into the valley.

It is also believed that the militants are planning to target the Amarnath Yatra, say intelligence agencies.

These militants, apparently, are backed by Pakistan Army, reports reveal.
