India Points To Advances In Defence Manufacturing
The Ministry of Defence (MoD) has pointed to improvements across a range of defence-industrial key performance indicators. These were contained in the MoD’s ‘eBook’ of major achievements, highlighting developments over the past four years under the Narendra Modi administration, which was published on 5 June.
Highlighted in the document are a list of statistics and developments – including new figures for defence production and defence exports – indicating capability advancement in both the public and private sectors.
According to the publication, the value of defence production recorded by state-owned defence public sector undertakings (DPSUs) – such as Hindustan Aeronautics Limited and Bharat Electronics Limited – and the Ordnance Factory Board increased by 27% between 2014–15 and 2017–18, reaching INR 587.58 billion (USD 8.7 billion).
