Indian Navy's replenishment & repair ship INS Aditya [A59]

India is expected to re-tender its fleet support ship project. Revised program is meant to incorporate greater involvement by local companies

The Indian Navy’s five-unit fleet support ship (FSS) project is set to be re-tendered globally after an expected collaboration agreement between India’s Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL) and South Korea’s Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) fell through.

Industry sources told Jane’s that work share and local content issues appear to have been major stumbling blocks that led to the failure. Under the national ‘Make in India’ push, the Indian Ministry of Defence (MoD) wants all five ships to be built in-country.
